We went to Straddie!

Hello all! We accomplished our goal- one more post before we return to the States on the 19th. This past weekend we jumped over to North Stradbroke Island; the second largest sand island in the world. The largest is Fraser Island is north of Brisbane (we passed it on our road trip). The Quandamooka people have land rights for the island aside from the three small towns. The best way to explore the island is with 4WD. However, we were just there for a night to celebrate a friends wedding. And though the weather was a tad off, we had a beautiful time and captured some pretty pics. On Sunday we walked around Point Lookout and saw countless whales. When Dave was looking the other way, I saw a full breach. We both saw a strange thin triangular shape bobbing in the waves and wondered what kind of buoy it could possibly be. We finally realised it was a whale waving 'hello' with its pectoral fin. From June through November the humpback whales pass the island as part of their migration.

A bite between squalls prior to the wedding.

Sunday morning was pretty.

The colour of the surf was pretty mesmerising.

Though not pictured here, I promise there were roos hiding out in the grasses.

The North Gorge. This pic does not do it justice.

Sea foam at the end of North Gorge.

Flora.

There are whales in this picture.

On the right you can see the Surf Life Saving Club where the wedding was held.

The storms kept threatening us.

I am happy to say that we saw our first Blue Bottle Jelly on land.
