Wow, time. It just keeps going.
Last I posted, we had just returned from a wonderful trip to Lamington National Park and a trip down the Tweed River Valley. We haven't adventured much lately. Dave is back to work full time and I am still looking. I had a few interviews, but alas, unsuccessful.
But this blog is about the fun things, so I will tell you about our latest obsession. Pasta. I treated Dave to a surprise pasta class and it was far too easy. Two days later we obtained a pasta machine and I really don't want to think about how many times we have made pasta since. While we made ravioli in the course we have largely been doing fettuccini and spaghetti at home. We are making our own pasta sauce with a hint of our basil from the balcony. Yum!
Oddly, we have been taking in a lot of sports events (anything is more than 0). We went to a AFL women's game (Australian Football League). Australian rules are different and I like it more than American football. However, I do believe it is a sport best seen from stands or via TV. Too big a pitch, too much going on- you need that expert camera angle. We also went to a soccer game. Brisbane just barely got on the board by the end and made it a draw. While not much happened in the game, it was a lovely evening sitting outside with lovely folks drinking the Brisbane classic XXXX (beer - I should also mention we did tour the XXXX factory).
Straya Day (Australia Day) passed us by on the 26th of Jan. It marks the landing of the First Fleet's arrival at Port Jackson in 1788. Think of it like Columbus Day with just as much controversy. We went to a bbq, but ducked out early because the wind came up.
Yup, most of what would be adventuring time has turned into kiting time. When the wind looks halfway decent we hem and haw about making the 35 minute drive to Brighton Beach. Dave is making waves, sailing upwind, and working on his turns. I am thrilled to say that I can consistently get up on the board going both left and right, but cannot turn and cannot go up wind. When the tide is going out, this makes kiting especially tiring. I find myself hitting sand, stopping, picking up my board and trudging to deeper water. According to all the other kiters, the wind has been $*!% this year. However, this week, fingers crossed, things might be changing.
Now for what you really want. Pictures.

Women's Australian Football League pre-season match
Soccer. Brisbane isn't very good, hence the empty seats...
PASTA!
Cooked pasta!
Just for fun, I treated myself to a native bouquet.
Some fun street art at South Bank
Topless pineapples are cheaper.
Very excited for our lemon and lime trees. Three words: G&Ts.
I heard a chuckle and found a kookaburra outside our apartment.
It's worth your time to google the call of the kookaburra.
When the wind is up, it's a popular place.
Setting up the bars and lines.
Our kite is on the beach.
My kite in the foreground. D is moving from right to left on the matching one way out there.
I wasn't up for going out, but D did.
