Last weekend we escaped our city living to explore the Sunshine Coast. We stayed just 300 meters from the beach in Coolum, we took many walks along the beach, hopped on public transport to national parks, and enjoyed the overall environment of the Sunny Coast. Unlike the built up Gold Coast to the south, the Sunny Coast is dominated by single family homes nestled in amongst the trees. The white sand beaches are occasionally broken up by rocky outcroppings. Overall it's a lovely place that fosters relaxation. I will also mention we played in the waves daily and have not encountered anything poisonous or aggressive!
View from the porch of our AirBnB in Coolum.
First walk on the beach at Coolum. Rumour had it there was a whale head washed up in the vicinity, we were advised not to swim here b/c sharks.
Birthday hike up Mt. Coolum. Lovely, but a bit warm.
Noosa National Park- northern end of the Sunny Coast. A gorgeous park with tons of trails. Turned out the weekend we chose to visit was the same weekend as the Noosa Triathlon- the second largest tri in the Southern Hemisphere.
One of the beaches at Noosa National Park.
The forest at Noosa NP. While we were teased with signs of koalas, we saw none. But the Black Cockatoos and Kookaburras were pretty neat.
Hike on the way home- Serenity Falls.
We found the falls!
Pretty.
Australia is home to a few very large things. This was our first.
