Hello hello, it has been far too long! The day to day routine has been the same, however there are a few highlights. First off (out of chronological order) please enjoy these food pictures. Yes, I had bacon yesterday for morning and it was delicious!
The following pictures are from just after breakfast. Erin, Lauren, Tyler and I had an amazing meal followed by a walk to the Sabanci Museum. Through January, there is an exhibit on Monet. We were also able to see an exhibit on Islamic manuscripts and Koran illumination. It was quite interesting to see as it mirrored many ideas I had when designing a hypothetical exhibit for class last spring. Unfortunately, pictures in the museum were not allowed.
Last weekend was an eventful one. There was a conference on Palaces hosted by the Pera Museum with scholars from around the world. A few friends and I attended the opening talk about Ottoman property rights and the following reception. It was a very nice night full of engaging conversations (scholarly critique, US election, DC voting rights!, museum policies, etc). One of our professors (and presenters in the conference) Dr. Magdalino joined us and well as a few of the fellows from the RCAC (Research Center for Anatolian Civilizations- a division of KoƧ). To top it off there was good food and not so good wine, but as a student, one cannot complain!
The following day consisted of obtaining my residence permit (I can now legally reenter the country after I leave) and an afternoon or more lectures.
I am now on holiday, although I am not traveling. This week is Bayram, a Muslim holiday full of animal sacrifice. Well it is time to be productive! Hope all is well at home!
