I am in Bergama at the Odessey Guest House. It is an old greek house that has been restored. There is a large roof terrace for breakfast, great book exchange, a reading room in connection with each room, and filter coffee!! I am currently sharing a room with a guy I met at the kiwi guest house in selcuk. We went to Izmir, stayed at the Hikmet Otel and decided it was not worth 10 extra lira (7dollars) for a shower, so although he is tired of ruins, he decided to join me in my Bergama adventure. This guy is named michael. He is a dental student in England and has run out of money and is currently using his student loan to survive till he leaves the 3rd of september. my traveling alone has apparently ceased, however he may continue on to assos while I remain here. (Chatasha, you would squeal!) anyway my one day in Izmir after taking the train from selcuk was spent getting lost. first in the bazaar which is understandabl, but then i ended up climbing a mountain based only on a brown sign meant to instruct drivers to a historic location. well when i figured out what I was aiming towards, it was the same moment that I realized I was on the wrong peak (although in a beautiful and truly turkish neighborhood) Eventually I made it to the right place and aside from the view it was more barely protected remains from that Great Alexander guy. I found my way home and was in time to catch dinner with some folks from seattle. A very good night culminating in street food!
I realize I never explained about Epheses or Pammukale- both were great and enjoyed in great company (Frenchies and aussies). Perhaps I will not tell of these adventures so that I may have something to share when I get home.
anyway, as usual, I must run off to find some great turkish food. Hope all is well and I will return to the world of easy communication (via cell phone?!?!?!!) in a week!
